About Shire SELF STORAGE

Shire Storage is a family owned and run business that concentrates on giving a great service and facilities that are second to none. We plan to open a number of storage facilities around Greater Manchester, our first is based at the historic Ram Mill in Chadderton. 

The mill was built in 1907 towards the end of the cotton boom in Lancashire, it's relatively modern construction has stone floors that were designed to reduce the risk of fire spreading and are very useful in the latest incarnation as a storage facility. It was designed by the architectural firm of Stott & Sons who were responsible for many mills around Lancashire. The mill is instantly recognisable by the terracotta stripes and cupola topped tower which were elements of which were often incorporated into Stott & Sons designs. 
Ram Mill stopped being used as a textile mill in 1971 as the industry moved overseas. The family behind Shire bought the mill and have since used it as a base for their import and retail businesses. 

In the last year, the family has invested significant amounts in renovating the mill and refitting the ground floor to establish Shire Storage.  Take a look at our facilities, we’re sure you’ll be impressed that such a modern can be housed in a historical building.
